Our Finishing Process
At Turkey Tail Design + Woodcraft, I take pride in crafting furniture that not only enhances your home but also stands the test of time. Each piece comes standard with a nontoxic, food and child-safe hardwax-oil finish that excels in durability, resistance to liquids, and ease of repair in case of accidents.
Hard-wax oils are highly protective, but considered a “maintenance finish”, meaning they may not withstand standing liquids and aggressive wear and tear. If you would like a more “bulletproof” finish, please note this during design and we can discuss other options.
Routine Cleaning
Maintaining the beauty of your handmade wood furniture is simple. For routine cleaning, gently wipe with a lightly-dampened rag. We advise against using specialized cleaning products, as they can diminish the wax and prematurely dull the wood finish. In the event of spills, prompt wiping is crucial. For tougher stains, clean with a mild dish soap solution on a damp cloth, then dry thoroughly.
Reapplying a Topcoat
Over time, you may notice the sheen of your furniture dulling or a decrease in stain and liquid resistance. To restore its protective finish, we recommend applying Osmo Polyx Oil 3043 or 3054 to all surfaces. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions carefully for application to ensure optimal results.
